On November 23 and 24,
2006 the University of Indianapolis, Athens hosted the ACBSP
Region 8-ECBE Joint Meeting in the UIndy Cultural Center in
Plaka. ACBSP, Association of Collegiate Business Schools and
Programs is the premier accrediting association for Business
schools and programs in the United States and ECBE, European
Council for Business Education, is a European professional
accreditation organization for business education with a
mission to promote and support quality business education
internationally. Chancellor Botopoulos opened the two-day
Conference welcoming the speakers and guests from the United
States, France, Switzerland, Spain, Belgium, the United Arab
Emirates, Russia, the Czech Republic and many other countries.
The participants discussed issues of international educational
networks, accreditation and globalization and education. The
Ambassador of Albania, H. E. Dr. Vili Minarolli and the
Ambassador of Mexico, H.E. Mr. Alejandro Diaz participated in
a discussion forum, which was held during the Conference. They
both exemplified the importance of education focusing on the
effects of globalization on their respective countries’
economies. Furthermore, Mr. Mitch Shapiro, Dean of the School
of Business, University of Indianapolis, raised the issue of
the imperative supply chain leadership on the part of
international schools and the development of the advocacy
organization for the supply chain industry. Keynote speaker of
the Conference was the Deputy Minister for the Economy and
Finance, Mr. Petros Doukas who discussed the issue of the
contextual reality of globalization in Greece in a speech
entitled: “Expressions of Globalization in the Greek
Reality”. A regional division of the Association of
Collegiate Business.Schools Programs is the International Council of
Business Schools and Programs representing member institutions
located outside the United States. The eight regional councils
of ACBSP have been established to promote the goals and
objectives of the national Association at the local level. Mr.
Botopoulos was elected President and Mr. Costas Kapadoukakis,
Business Department Chair of the University of Indianapolis,
Athens was elected Secretary and Treasurer for a two-year
term.
