Students can earn a four or five year degree with a major
in accounting as well as a minor. Students interested in
a career as a certified public accountant (CPA) will enroll
in the five-year program. This program satisfies the requirements
of the state of Indiana to take the CPA examination. Upon
completion, the student will be awarded the degree of Master
of Accounting. Normally, the student will have earned
their bachelor's degree after completion of four years.
Students with a career goal of working in private accounting
will enter the four-year program. Completion of the minor
in accounting will complement any major.

* Accounting courses follow AICPA principles for preparation
of CPAs (Certified Public Accountant) and CMAs (Certified
Management Accountant). Not all the courses listed above
are required for the students seeking the CPA or CMA certification.
The CPA or the CMA curriculum guide should be studied carefully,
and students should be aware that in order to sit for the
CPA examination (effective January 2000), the requirement
is 150 hours. The University of Indianapolis has a Master
of Accounting degree that has been designed to meet the
150-hour requirement. For students not wishing to pursue
the master's degree, the 150- hour requirements must still
be met in order to sit for the CPA examination. Note: Admission
requirements for the graduate program in accounting include:
3.0 grade point average in Accounting courses and 2.5 cumulative
grade point average. (See the graduate catalog for graduate
accounting courses.)
** Master of Accounting (MACC) and Master of Business Administration
(MBA) course descriptions can be found in the Graduate Business
Programs catalog.
